Size of the Cat

“It’s not the size of the cat in the fight. It’s the—well, it’s usually not the size of the cat in the fight. But when you’re dealing with a truly massive cat, then that really is the decisive factor.”

Lil' Penny

Just in time for the Finals even though my team (Cavs) got eliminated, Nike has been making puppet commericals for a minute... Check out my dude Lil" Penny... CLASSIC!!!

Back off Hiatus...

First off, I wanna apologize for my lateness, a lot has been going on in my life, graduation, work and some other issues but I am back and I will try to update once or twice a week.

This has been an ongoing issue with me and I can't seem to understand it. I have a friend who is in a relationship but seems to be not happy with how things are going. She confides in me and I cherish her every feeling but somehow in the back of my mind, I'm telling myself that I can do much better than the other person. We sit back and I try to take her mind off of it but somehow the problem always presents itself. Now I'm in a posititon where I'm playing the friend role but knowing that I should be more than that...

My life will continue to move on but this is just a small taste of what goes on how I go about it...

In Memory of First Lt. Roslyn L. Shulte

First Lt. Roslyn L. Shulte
First Female USAF Academy Grad Killed In Action

After a weekend of relaxation, close family friends, and friends alike, I was brought news of a fallen comrad this evening. First Lt. Roslyn L. Shulte was a schoolmate of mine at John Burroughs School. I've always had a profound meaning for Memorial Day as it was a day that brought sudden death many years back to Toni Watkins, a wonderful woman in my family who every year the family continues to do a cookout in her honor in Kirkwood, MO. But this news hit me from a different angle.

This is the first person that I know I've had direct contact with for long periods of time that has been killed due to what I percieve as a senseless war. I'm not speaking of the people I know that have been gunned down by violence. I'm talking about a war half way across the globe to a land many in our country will not visit. Knowing that I interacted with Roz for 5+ years at a school where each class size was roughly 100 persons was killed definately is disheartening. Though we weren't the best of friends, or teamates, Roz was an athlete. I remeber her on the fields at JBS and she was ultracompetitive. The JBS community is tight knit and everyone knows everyone. I was very pleased to hear that they held a memorial service for the family as well. My prayers go out to the family as the healing process must begin. I was pleased to hear that the Goverment flags in St. Louis County from May 26, 2009 - May 31, 2009 would be flown at Half Staff in Roz's Honor. A tribute to a Jewish-Woman that I shared time with and many others who's hearts feel as I feel or have felt as I've felt upon learning of her passing.

I felt compelled to write a tribute and bring awareness to someone that may or may not have ever crossed your life. Maybe you had heard the story and now you can connect hers with someone else. However the pieces lay, give respect to the fallen soldiers that fight to protect the freedoms we hold dear.

Roz, may your soul be at peace. Amen

On Monday the U.S. forces based at Camp Eggers gathered wearing khaki, camouflage and blue blazers to salute their latest dead comrades, Schulte, or Roz, and Shawn Pine from San Antonio, Texas, a former Army ranger who was working as a contractor to train Afghan army soldiers. The Chronicles of the Black Pack – Pt. 1 Published May 16, 2009 By: John Torrey

Courtesy of http://mrphilosopher.wordpress.com

For all those who haven’t read Part 1 – here’s the first section of my newest short story, “The Chronicles of the Black Pack.” A little bit like an all-black male Sex in the City or Entourage. Read and comment!
—————————————-
We’ve all had awkward moments. We’ve all had great moments. We’ve all had rough patches and bright spots. From saying to a chick that you love her when she’s not that into you, to getting that promotion you’ve been wanting for a long time, to the birth of your first child. They make everybody feel different ways, from elation to consternation. But we’ve all gotta get those feelings off of our chests. You gotta express yourself. Some people go to a shrink; that’s cool, but many people live off of their friends. Their close buddies who are down for them and have their back. So when these feelings climb up on you, sometimes you just need to go be with the fellas and talk a little shit, you know?
Here’s a fair description of one of my boys. James was never the smoothest guy you meet, but he was so damn nice folks appreciated his presence. How often do people meet a genuinely well-intentioned black man with a job? And not some rinky-dink job at the supermarket, but one of those high-paying jobs? Ain’t too many cool accountants, trust me – I went to college with a bunch of accountants-in-training, and most of them were anal bastards more concerned with crunching numbers than the real world. Guy always looks sharp, always has a smile on his face, he’s so damn appreciative of his chances in the world that he beams happiness. It’s a wonder he’s still single – sounds like a catch of the damn decade. But every time James comes and tells the rest of us some story, it never ends well. Sometimes he gets a goodnight kiss; he’s had some successful dating but by and large for the type of guy he is, he should be getting all kinds of attention. We gotta work on his radar or somethin’, because this just isn’t fun to listen to. We can always hear the doubt in his voice when he talks about himself in the social sense because of his lack of success with the ladies. Here’s an example – the four of us met up for lunch last Saturday at this spot in Little Five Points as it just happened to be when all of us were in town. A couple of beers later, we were shooting the shit like we used to in college when James said he wanted to tell us about his date. He’s only 22, so we expect something reminiscent of our good ol’ days.
“Yeah, I set everything up to the 9’s. Big, fancy restaurant that had a great menu, music was on point – the works. She was lookin’ just delicious, and my jaw damn near dropped when she came to the car when I picked her up. She asked if it was cool if she got the lobster, I told her she can have any crustacean she wants.” That was James, alright – going all out on the first date without expecting more than maybe a second date. He really was just trying to have an enjoyable experience out. “So the wine starts flowing, and we both loosened up and got to talking. She asked me about my career – I tell her that I love being an accountant but it’s boring as hell to talk about, like watching the leaves fall off the trees or something. I ask her about her job, she says she’s a waitress slash model slash actress slash singer slash songwriter, one of those entertainment types. I can tell right away she’s got that fast paced lifestyle, and I’m not in that kind of life but it’s whatever, you know? So she says to me a little later that she’s not sure if I can handle her lifestyle – that I’m a straight-laced, family-type, good guy. She thought I wanted a serious commitment. Mind you, this is date one, but ok. I decided I’d play with her head, and told her I ain’t say a thing about commitment. “
We all looked at each other like, “This nigga is putting 100 on 10 right now – no way he said any of this. Let’s see what kind of story he comes up with.” James doesn’t have that much bravado, that much boldness to bark up that tree.
“She didn’t see it coming, and was saying how she thought I was gonna start talking about wanting kids or some shit. I looked dead at her and said, ‘Fuck them crumbssnatchers, it’s not my time for that and I’m tryin’ to have a little fun.” Now we all really knew James was lying – he’s been looking for Miss Right and would love to settle down and have a family. This story was becoming just that, a story. I guess he was tired of striking out and wanted to try to get some sort of success, if this was indeed true. “Katrina didn’t see any of this coming, I’d flipped the script on her ass somethin’ special. To finish the night, I glanced at her and told her there’s a spot in my bed with her name on it and don’t make it keep waiting.”
The smile on his face after he said that line was real. It wasn’t that goofy, “haha I’m joking” smile, he really might have done this. James Turner may have popped off a one night stand. The looks on the rest of ours faces was straight bewilderment. The Midwestern transplant to Atlanta became Andre – the Miami native who was the king of one nighters. All I could say was, “Damn man! All this time we thought your balls hadn’t dropped!” James just looked around at our stunned faces (this was the first time he’d ever done something like this and we’ve known him for 5 years), and said, “I tried something new my nig, and it worked out. I can’t believe I did, but it paid off ‘cause Katrina put it on me. She messed up my mattress!”
Robert piped up, tired of hearing what he thought was James’ tall tale. “Quit talking all that bullshit, we all know you didn’t do any of that. When she called you on it, you probably just said ‘Yeah, but I can be spontaneous!’ Face it, you do the mushy stuff. That chick had you pegged with a quickness.” Robert’s skepticism is always tangible, which is why he’s going to be one hell of a defense attorney. But he knew how to tease James like a schoolyard bully. “I wonder how fast you came – right before she kissed you or right before she touched your dick.” We all laughed, disrupting some of the “polite” conversations that the other people at the restaurant might have been having. Those annoyed patrons turned around to see four black men enjoying themselves without being drunk or doing something illegal – a shocking sight indeed.
“I’ll have you know she came before me, thank you very much,” James uttered. Robert retorted, “Came like came to your bed? ‘Cause I know you didn’t make it work; you probably messed up your pants on the way home.” These two continued their back and forth, much to me and Andre’s enjoyment, and I was reminded of our college years. We were much, much worse back then.

The influence of music on sports and athletes

Music and sports are running in tandem these days. It is far less uncommon to see the two socializing together. This is true with most popular sports in the US. This year it has been seen more commonly that entertainers are sitting courtside in greater numbers than ever before. You see them roaming the sidelines during NFL games. They can even be found in suites during the World Series. No longer is it just for the singing of the National Anthem. But why is this union so common?

We’ve seen entertainers more present in the owner’s booth than before with names like Jay-Z & Nelly ever present in both worlds. I commend those two for investing in something other than alcoholic beverages, liquor, clothing or jewelry. Hopefully, these gentlemen can show others “smart” ways to spend their earnings which can in turn give them a return on their investment. Snoop Dogg must also be commended for his efforts with his youth football program. No only does this link sport and music, but it also give positive direction for today’s unguided youth. It gives a sense of responsibility and father figures to many young men without a “man” in their daily lives.

Athletes and entertainers run in the same circle. They are both viewed as the popular icons of the social structure to the world. Children and young adults view them as role models, be it good or bad. They emulate them whenever possible. And far often or not are the trend setters of the world. We get our information from these martyr figures.

We have seen institutions such as the NBA limit its influences by having its players abide by higher standards. This is mainly apparent in post game interviews where business casual dress is required. They also do not allow its players to warm up with electronic devices on the court. That’s right; players cannot bump their iPods while warming up on the court as this goes against the NBA’s dress policy on the court. I guess the NBA felt that the youth would not only mock their Band-Aids (D Wade), Sleeves (Anyone with an “injury”), or headbands. Funny how they haven’t mandated the amount of tattoos one can have showing while on the court.

The NFL & MLB really haven’t enforced many dress codes that weren’t’ already in place as they were stricter with their uniforms than the NBA. I guess when you have that much skin showing, there’s multiple options available. Time will tell the direction of things to come but we know as far as their influences.

Besides the obvious connection with trends, more often than not, you hear player warming up to the hottest tunes out. More often than not it happens to be hip-hop/rap music. This can be said true overseas as I’ve witnessed first hand the music bleeding through the speakers internationally at sporting events. Yes there are still traces of rock and alternative sounds, but the influence that the “urban” culture has on grown since its humble origins in the 1980’s. The most conservative Republican can be found patting their feet to the sounds of Beyonce’ during time outs. No matter how much you think you hate it, you love it just the same. It touches so many for reasons that cannot be explained, yet it amasses such public scrutiny. Once again it is best stated by the late B.I.G. “mo money, mo problems.” The more money hip-hop generates, the more “problems” it creates to every entity it touches.

Top of the week

What's good world? Hope all is well with the start of a new week. We're closing out of April headed into the month of May. For some reason this has been a strange month. Could it be the fact that I'm used to the saying "April Showers." I can only recall maybe one day that it's rained this month here in Tampa. I know St. Louis got some well needed rain today. With the water shortage here in Tampa, we definately need the skies to open up. In due time I guess.

Well as I know this has been a pretty productive month. Got some recording in. Got the groundwork for the promotion in for the tracks. Worked on some graphics for others (yea we do that over here too). Preparing for some green screen video shooting for the upcoming cartoon project with the durrty Numbaz. I've been getting my twitter game up (www.twitter.com/kidmoneykg) We began shooting for A$C Money TV that will feature various personalities from the A$C. Working on a few mixtape tracks for the homie Amazin' da Cornerboi out of Las Vegas. Got some new tracks from Ronnie Notch. Setup the trip to New Hampshire (I'm sure there will be plenty of footage from that trip in June). Got some quality exercise in (softball, football, basketball & some cardio). Not to mention a little rest & relaxation.

All in all, I must say that WE DO WORK!!!!!! Stay tuned for more to come. I'm pretty sure that things will get very interesting soon!!!!! I'll holla!!!!!!

Long Time Coming

I know it's been a minute since I stopped in and offered some insight to what's going on in my world. I deeply apologize for that. Plenty has occurred but not all is substantial to you all. So I'll save the boredom and get to the good stuff.

I AM ON TWITTER!!!!! follow me @ twitter.com/kidmoneykg

Currently working on the long over due cartoon for "Drinks On Me" I know I'm way past that as far as the single I'm pushing, but wanted to do it anyway since all these people are using cartoons to push their music. Ah well, I know I'm not jumping on the bandwagon so I'm good.

Got a few new tracks coming out soon so stay tuned for that. I like the direction things are going so I hope you all do as well.

I am strongly thinking about adding a manager to the team. Things are becoming a bit too hectic for me and I need someone that will go out and make things happen. I can't micromanage my career. I'm not relinquishing the powers of the A$C brand, but as far as Kid Money KG is concerned, it seems as though this is a necessary step in a positive direction. I'll see where the spirits lead me.

So, there's the recap of things to come. Hope you all are doing well as we're into the 2nd quarter. Be on the look out for some more fantastic news in the future. I'll holla durrty!!!!!!

The 2009 Prom invitation: controversial or satirical?

Please check this out and give it some thought. My opinion is posted below...

http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/parents-talk-back/parents-talk-back/2009/03/john-burroughs-high-schools-prom-invitation-pushes-the-envelope/

Honestly, I have no issues with it. I find it extremely creative which shows the level of education we receive from the institution. I know the school is held to higher than normal standards but there's a lot of other themes that could have been chosen based solely on the times we're in that would be inappropriate. These days students are more aware of things than ever before. I understand that it could be perceived as racy, but come on now, we watch movies more graphic than that and lets face it more than half of the attending body will be over the age of 18. So how bad can it truly be? To me people are forgetting that "lust" is only one (1) of the seven (7) Deadly Sins. I'm pretty sure we've all "sinned" at least once in life. If we as a people didn't sin, how much would we truly need religion? Just giving all some room for thought.

NO MORE HP/COMPAQ PURCHASES

First off, please go to www.stleyecandy.com and vote for Miss October 2008. That's my family right there and she should be #1!!!! That's family right there so fellas be respectful!!!!

Now, today was a trying day, how about I've been dealing with HP/Compaq regarding a laptop that had to get sent back in for service. Now the reason it was sent was because after a few weeks, the damn thing wouldn't load windows. So after a month of trying to reinstall and get it going, I gave up and told them they need to fix it. So after sending it to them, knowing they had it for a few days and everything, they tell me the screen is cracked. After 2 weeks, they said that there was no damage that was found to be done by shipping. Now it was shipped from FedEx and I can't yell at them because I didn't pay for it, but you know these people tried to tell me.... no they told me that there's nothing else that can be done. Their people looked at it and determined it was not done in transit. Now I didn't send it with damage, so why should I recieve it with damage? I'm HEATED!!!!!!!! So I'm boycotting HP & Compaq since apparently they're the same company. So if you're looking for a computer, look the other way when those 2 pop up!!!! Peace, love and blessings you all!!!!

Also send your prayers up as I've got a cousin that suffered a stroke Sunday and is in ICU. Love you Michael!!!!

Thanks for the opportunity to be heard!!!!

Nosey People

Today I've been bothered by some nosey people. I can't fully say dealing with me, but those close to me. See I realize that you're doing something right to have people question your actions, but does that mean you're up to something?!?!?! In this particular situation someone was upset because something was done without their knowledge like people have to report their every action. That right there shows me a lack of trust and respect. Now, I handle things much differently than the person this involves and they are much better than me because I would have blown a gasket for questioning me and what I do. I'm a grown ass man and there are decisions I must make on my own to ensure my own sanity. But that's all I'm going to say about that. Keep it real my people!!!!!!! GO

I honestly don't have much to bring to the table today but I had to make sure you all knew I am on here and I'm doing well.

I guess I should say thank you to all my supporters and ditractors the same. The attention is appreciated and I hope regardless my words ultimately mean something to someone. Thank you for the opportunity to be heard. Keep talking because we loev the free promotion!!!!!! The new single is out there and I'm definately working on some new things for you all to vibe to.
